I bought a ticket and was given a seat location that read O:ORCH:15:6,12. What does that mean?

The first piece of information is an abbreviation of the seating level you chose. For example, O is an abbreviation for the Orchestra level or main floor of the theater. B denotes the Balcony or second floor of the theatre. The second piece of information tells you in which section of the seating level your seats are located in more detail. In the above instance, ORCH refers to the Orchestra while BALC refers to the Balcony. 15 is the row, followed by seat numbers 6-12. In the example above, there are four seats in Row 15 in your confirmation. The seats are even numbered so seats 6-12 would include seats 6, 8, 10 and 12.

Please allow plenty of time for traffic, parking and a line to pick up will call tickets, as you may not be seated right away if the show has started.

I have never been to the Center for the Performing Arts. Can you describe the layout of the seating sections?

The San Jose Center for the Performing Arts is composed of two seating levels that are "Continental" seating. There is no middle aisle. Seats on the left side of the theater are odd-numbered and seats on the right side are even-numbered. The smaller the seat number, the closer to the center of the row the seat is located.

The main floor is divided into three price sections. Orchestra A consists of rows 1 – 24 in most center seats of each row. Orchestra B creates a U shape around Orchestra A beginning at row 7 through row 24. It offers seats closer to the stage that are further to the sides or in the center of the last 8 rows of the floor. Orchestra C consists of the most side seats in rows 9-25 of the main floor. The seating is gradually sloped similar to most movie theatres.

The balcony is 12 rows that sit over the Orchestra Floor beginning at row 16. It is comprised of two seating sections: Balcony E and Balcony F. Balcony E is made up of the most center seats of rows 2-8. Balcony F circles Balcony E on the sides and last 4 rows. Please note that row 1 of the Balcony is sold as the F section. It is considered obstructed. All seating in the balcony is tiered, entailing a stair between each row. This may afford better visibility over the row ahead. To view a seating chart click here.
